From Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City star to extend contract until 2028 NEXT WEEK
Manchester City are set to see Julian Alvarez put pen to paper on a new contract next week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Argentina international has been nothing short of sensational for Manchester City since officially joining the Club from River Plate last summer, in a deal that was originally agreed back in the January transfer window of 2022.
Offering a new intensity to Manchester City’s forward line following the sales of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, Alvarez has been instrumental in the Club’s pursuit of a third Premier League title in as many years.
His improvement under the coaching and guidance of Pep Guardiola, as well as working alongside other top-level professionals, has been noticeable and was further highlighted during his World Cup campaign in Qatar.
Throughout the tournament with Argentina, Alvarez formed an outstanding partnership with all-time great Lionel Messi, as the South American nation successfully claimed the title in the middle-east.
Upon returning to Manchester following the tournament, City were keen to intensify contract negotiations after being made aware of possible interest from some of Europe’s most prominent sides, and this week a new update has arrived on such talks.
As per new information from Fabrizio Romano this week, Julian Alvarez will sign a new deal with Manchester City next week, after the Argentine striker approved the final proposal from the Club.
It is further explained that Alvarez’s new deal will be valid until 2028, having been extended by a further year as part of the improved terms. Additionally, the 23 year-old will also receive a ‘significant’ pay rise following his great impact since joining City and his World Cup win.
Julian Alvarez will look to only drive his game time upwards under Pep Guardiola, during the remainder of the ongoing season and certainly into the next campaign later this year.
The Argentina star has shown signs of striking up a fine partnership with leading goalscorer Erling Haaland at moments this season, and many supporters have called for Alvarez to be utilised more often alongside or in-behind the Norwegian.
This weekend, Alvarez and his Manchester City teammates travel to Selhurst Park to take on a struggling Crystal Palace side, as the reigning Champions hunt down three points to put an increasing level of pressure on leaders Arsenal.
