“The expectation at Manchester City has been…” – David Ornstein reveals when Premier League will announce 115 charges verdict

Football insider David Ornstein has provided a fresh update on when Manchester City can expect to receive a final verdict on the 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.

City have strenuously denied any wrongdoing after being accused of breaching the league’s financial rules, with an outcome on the charges expected in the near future.

The Premier League champions are expected to make significant investment in the summer transfer window and the upcoming verdict could have a crucial impact on the financial muscle City can flex to introduce new signings.

Hearings were conducted by an independent commission between September and December of 2024 – and as Manchester City approach the run-in of an underwhelming campaign, all eyes are on the verdict on the allegations made against them by the Premier League.

Writing for The Athletic in a Q&A article last week, football insider David Ornstein addressed a flurry of recent speculation around when Manchester City will learn their fate as the club await a decision on an appeal against the allegations.

Ornstein wrote: “People have been saying things like ‘imminent’, ‘this week’, ‘tomorrow’ for ages now, and that shows most of us simply don’t know – probably only a small number involved in the process do.

“As I and others have reported previously, the expectation at Manchester City has been ‘spring’ and if that’s the case, we’re into that.

“However, it’d also mean we might be waiting until late June! Plus, as long as we don’t have anything firm from the Premier League, City or other parties privy to the matter, it’s largely speculation and perhaps subject to change.”

Ornstein further stated that the nature of the upcoming announcement is yet to be known by many within the industry, though it is likely Manchester City and the Premier League release statements of their own to address the verdict.

He added: “Another thing we don’t know is the nature of the announcement. So, will the verdict be as black and white as many are anticipating? Could it be an anti-climax?

“How much detail will there be to sift through? What are the next steps? Will there be appeals, and if the answer to that is yes, how long could they take? “You suspect this process is nowhere near finished yet.”
