Manchester United stars left red-faced after Arsenal and Man City WhatsApp messages

Players at Manchester United have been left red-faced after discussions in their WhatsApp group prior to the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool, a report has revealed.

Erik ten Hag and his squad came into a clash at Anfield in high spirits, following a win in the Carabao Cup final over Newcastle the weekend prior, and a midweek victory over West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round.

However, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool players could not have handed the Old Trafford squad and it’s faithful any bigger humbling, dismissing Manchester United through a sensational 7-0 scoreline on Merseyside.

Cody Gakpo had Liverpool ahead at the break with a slender one-goal margin, before a staggering second-half capitulation from Manchester United saw them leave Anfield on the back of a total embarassment.

Goals from Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino ensured that United players were left totally red-faced, especially after the emergence of some exceptionally confident WhatsApp messages from the Old Trafford players.

According to information included in a new report from Chris Wheeler of the Mail, there was ‘a growing feeling’ among Manchester United’s players that the Premier League title was ‘a genuine target’ for them prior to last weekend.

It has been further revealed that in the players’ WhatsApp group, members of Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad had spoken about the prospect of catching Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

In regards to the serious Premier League title race at the top of the division, Arsenal currently hold a five-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s reigning Champions following another sensational round of action over the weekend.

Mikel Arteta’s side were just a matter of minutes away from dropping points at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, after Gary O’Neil’s side went 0-2 ahead at the Emirates Stadium at one stage.

However, a 96th minute winner from Reiss Nelson topped off an incredible comeback in North London, claiming all three points and retaining their lead over Manchester City after the Etihad club cruised to a professional 2-0 win over Newcastle in the early kick-off.

Next up for Manchester City is a Saturday evening clash against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side this weekend – a fixture that has historically caused Pep Guardiola and his players some significant problems.
