Manchester City set to claim major share of staggering $1 billion FIFA Club World Cup prize pool

Manchester City will take home one of the biggest shares of FIFA’s $1 billion cash prize pool this summer owing to their participation in the 2025 Club World Cup.

The United States will host the newly-expanded and revamped competition to be held in the months of June and July, which will feature 12 European teams vying for a spot in the last-eight of the tournament.

Streaming giants DAZN struck a global deal for the broadcasting rights of FIFA’s showpiece competition this year, and a cash prize worth around £100 million is in the offing for the outright winner.

Qualification into the last-eight of the Club World Cup will also mean a prize worth around £60 million for both Manchester City and Chelsea – likely to be viewed as two of the early favourites to win the tournament.

A significant ‘solidarity’ payment will also be given to clubs and countries that will not be participating, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino is certainly excited for the impact the new format of the competition will have on club football as a whole.

“The FIFA Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football,” Infantino said.

“But also a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs at large to a scale that no other competition has ever done. All revenue generated by the tournament will be distributed to the participating clubs and via club solidarity across the world as FIFA will not keep a single dollar.

“FIFA’s reserves, which are there for global football development, will remain untouched.”

Manchester City are still aiming for a top-four finish in the Premier League during the final weeks and months of this season, as Pep Guardiola’s squad currently sit 20 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool.

The Blues face Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-final and Pep Guardiola will be desperate to finish the season on a high and lift some form of silverware after missing out on the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and Carabao Cup.
