Manchester City take on Liverpool in their return to Premier League action this weekend hoping to further cement their claim for a top-four finish.

In the latest outing in an increasingly challenging campaign for Pep Guardiola and his players, the reigning Premier League champions succumbed to a UEFA Champions League exit before the last-16 stage for the first time since Roberto Mancini’s side in 2012/13.

Real Madrid handed Manchester City yet another humbling result in European competition as a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick inspired Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a comfortable 3-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, making it a 6-3 aggregate win across two-legs in the last-16 play-off tie.

The big games just keep on coming for Manchester City too, as they travel to North London after this weekend’s clash with the league leaders to take on Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – a side that issued a 0-4 hammering at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool remain in a strong position across all competitions but do find themselves on a run of one win in their last four matches, which have included a shock FA Cup fourth round defeat to Championship side Plymouth Argyle away from home.

Manchester City will come into this one without John Stones or Manuel Akanji, both of whom require an extended period out following fresh muscular problems, joining Oscar Bobb and Rodri on the sidelines.

Erling Haaland required a late assessment on his fitness on Saturday afternoon and his availability for the clash was unknown up until the point of Manchester City arriving at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, here is how both Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot have lined up their respective Manchester City and Liverpool sides in Premier League action!
