Pep Guardiola and his players will now see one of their upcoming Premier League matches postponed due to their FA Cup involvement.

Manchester City booked their place in the quarter-finals of this season’s Emirates FA Cup courtesy of a dominant 0-3 victory at Ashton Gate against Championship side Bristol City on Tuesday night.

A sublime strike from Phil Foden early in the contest set the tone for the rest of the game, as Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez combined on the right before the latter slid the ball across to the England international at the far-post to tap home.

Foden then added to his tally in the second-half, as he struck home for 0-2 via a deflection. Then it was the turn of Kevin De Bruyne, who fired home with pinpoint accuracy from distance to round off the month of February in style.

However, while fans can certainly now look forward to a quarter-final tie against Burnley this month, progression in the FA Cup for Manchester City has now automatically postponed one of their upcoming Premier League matches.

With the quarter-final ties of this season’s FA Cup scheduled to be played on the weekend of the 18/19 March, Manchester City’s home league game against West Ham United – who play Manchester United in the fifth round this week – will now automatically be postponed.

Pep Guardiola and his players had originally been scheduled to take on David Moyes’ side on Sunday 19th March, with kick-off scheduled for 16:30 and broadcasted live on Sky Sports.

A new date will now have to be found for that fixture, in amongst an already crammed fixture list for the Premier League champions as they go in search of winning all three remaining trophies this season.

Next up for Manchester City this week is a Premier League affair against high-flying Newcastle United, who come into the clash at the Etihad Stadium off the back of a disappointing Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester United at Wembley.
