Manchester City and Tottenham have reached an agreement and confirmed the transfer of highly-rated midfield talent Dan Batty to North London.

The Stalybridge-born midfielder joined Manchester City’s youth academy system at Under-8s level, going on to progress through each of the club’s age groups and emerge as a key figure in midfield units throughout his development.

Manchester City have described the player publicly as a “creative, attacking midfielder who can provide a bit of magic in the attacking third”, and after 11 appearances in the 2023/24 campaign, there was hope of him emerging as a senior figure for the Under-18s this season.

Batty has been embedded within Manchester City’s Under-18s age group for the last 18 months, and scored the winning goal for the club in an FA Youth Cup third round victory over Crystal Palace earlier on this season.

But before there could be any further excitement about the player’s future perhaps in Sky Blue, one of Manchester City’s Premier League rivals have now acted fast to ensure that the player makes a switch to the capital this month.

As confirmed by Tottenham Hotspur in an official club statement on Tuesday morning, the Premier League side announced, “We are delighted to announce the signing of Dan Batty from Manchester City.

“The 18-year-old attacking midfielder joins our Academy, signing a contract which will run until 2028.”

While official details around the move are somewhat undisclosed, the ever-reliable market insider Fabrizio Romano detailed various elements of the transfer in the days leading up to official confirmation.

According to the journalist, Tottenham have signed the midfielder for a £500,000 transfer fee in a move that includes future add-ons plus a sell-on percentage in favour of the Premier League champions.
