Why Ederson is absent from Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Arsenal
Manchester City take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon without their mainstay number one choice goalkeeper Ederson, it has been confirmed.
The Premier League champions travel to North London aiming for another three points that would further solidify their pursuit of a top-four finish in the division this season having somewhat recovered from a slump in form and performances across November and December.
Manchester City are unbeaten across all competitions since Boxing Day, aside from a calamitous 4-2 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain that failed to derail the club’s hopes of a last-16 play-off place in the Champions League this season.
And last time out in the Premier League, it was a vital three points for Manchester City as they came from behind to defeat fellow top-four challengers Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium 3-1 thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden.
But as Pep Guardiola and his players look to claim a further mammoth three points, they have been struck with a pre-kick off blow to their team selection as Ederson is once again unavailable for action.
Manchester City confirmed in their team news notes that the Brazil international had been deemed ‘not fully fit’ for the affair at the Emirates Stadium, while Pep Guardiola offered his own insight during pre-match media duties.
The 54-year-old revealed that Ederson had sustained a ‘minor injury’ this week, but will fortunately not be ruled out of action for Manchester City for too long, with Stefan Ortega Moreno coming into the side in his place in the meantime.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
