Manchester City defender considered for first-ever senior national team call-up
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City coaching staff appear to be closing in on a breakthrough moment for one of the club’s finest up and coming talents.
It is the latest arrival in a growing list of new signings into the Premier League champions’ first-team squad after there was a realisation within the club that work had to start immediately on some sort of rebuild.
Abdukodir Khusanov is expected to become the first player to formally announced as a new signing this month, and will likely be followed by Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, who is understood to have finalised medical testing and documentation signing.
Eintracht Frankfurt and Egypt international Omar Marmoush will also fly into the UK this week to complete a €75 million switch from the Bundesliga, while there could yet be a defensive midfielder brought into the club.
And the good news just keeps on coming for one of the aforementioned recruits, with Vitor Reis in line to make significant strides forward in his international career, according to new reports.
That is according to the information of journalist Julio Gomes, speaking on a new edition of The Transfers Podcast, who claims that Brazilian national team coaches are thinking about calling-up the incoming Manchester City defender to their senior squad in 2025.
Reis has only previously represented Brazil at Under-16 and Under-17 level, featuring at the 2022 Montaigu Tournament for the former, and being called up to the latter in October 2022 for friendlies against Chile and Paraguay.
For now, it remains to be seen just how much responsibility Reis will be granted in Pep Guardiola’s team during the second-half of the season, although the expectation within the club is that the teenager is ready for this level of football.
There remains a possibility that Vitor Reis could compete for the right-back role alongside Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes, with Kyle Walker expected to complete an exit for AC Milan in the coming days.
