Abdukodir Khusanov price tag revealed as Manchester City plot January transfer
Manchester City have now seen the expected price tag for January transfer window target Abdukodir Khusanov revealed in the media.
The English top-flight giants first saw their name emerge in the public domain when it came to the Uzbekistan international earlier this week, with it being claimed that Khusanov had been placed on their list of targets for the winter market.
Supporters have been made aware for several weeks now that Manchester City officials intend to be active this month, in a rare change of approach from previous editions of the window having last recruited a big-money first-team name back in 2018.
That came when Aymeric Laporte finalised an agreement with Etihad Stadium bosses to switch from Athletic Bilbao at the halfway stage of the season, winning the Premier League just a matter of months later.
And similarly, City are seeking to bring in central defensive muscle this month, albeit this time with their hopes of a Premier League title win looking hugely unlikely given the gap between themselves and leaders Liverpool.
According to the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, Manchester City are considering accelerating plans to sign Lens’ young central defender Abdukodir Khusanov in the ongoing January transfer window given their current injury situation at the back in particular.
It is highlighted that Khusanov is attracting interest from other top clubs and would cost around £20 million, with the reigning Premier League champions certainly interested and could change their plans for him by bringing the 20-year-old in this month.
Khusanov’s meteoric rise since joining Lens in the summer of 2023 has simultaneously seen him break a number of records as an Uzbekistan international, becoming the first player of his nation to play in Ligue 1 when he made his debut against Metz in September 2023.
Going on to play his first UEFA competition game in the Champions League just a matter of weeks later at just 19 years and nine months, the defender in-turn became the youngster Uzbek to play in the competition and in all UEFA tournaments.
Qualifying for the Europa League that same season via a third-placed finish in the group stage, Khusanov became the youngest Uzbek to play in the competition at 19 years and 11 months in his appearance in the first-leg play-off game against SC Freiburg in February 2024.
