Manchester City are reportedly poised to make an official approach to Newcastle United for their star midfielder and club captain, Bruno Guimaraes.

It is the latest development ahead of what is expected to be a busy transfer window for Manchester City in January, as Pep Guardiola looks to work alongside club bosses to ensure of a brighter second-half of the ongoing campaign.

The Premier League champions find themselves at the heart of a torrid run of form, winning just one game in their last 11 matches across all competitions, losing eight of those outings in that time including home clashes with Tottenham and Manchester United.

Many believe that such poor form is a culmination of various factors including ageing players in crucial roles, injury and fitness concerns, and a build-up of poor recruitment in recent transfer markets.

As such, there is a widespread awareness from within the club that work must be done and fast in order to secure the club’s future in the top-four of the Premier League and as such, claim a UEFA Champions League place for 2025/26.

And as part of that recruitment awareness, according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, the Etihad Stadium club are now poised to make an official approach to Newcastle United for midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes.

However it is clarified, given the desire to recruit in January, that if there is any delay to proceedings, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will ‘move on quickly’ to another target in the central role.

But when it comes to the Brazil international, City are reportedly willing to offer players in exchange for the 27-year-old, whilst the Premier League champions want to bring in three new faces during the winter market.

Aside from the Brazilian star, Manchester City are likely to have a number of other options on their list of transfer targets, but it remains to be seen just how many are deemed attainable midway through a season.

It is largely the reason why City have often stayed away from doing business in the winter market, knowing that there is little to no chance of negotiation room for their primary targets given the ambitions of other clubs.

However, the club’s determination to operate in the New Year is a clear indication of the severity of the situation at hand, and how some within the club may believe that their cross-competition fate is at serious risk of disaster without fresh faces joining the team.
