Jeremy Doku issues Premier League title warning as Manchester City close gap on Liverpool to nine points

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has issued a word of warning to the club’s Premier League title rivals over their fate in the race for the top-flight crown.

The Belgian winger was in fine form during the Premier League champions’ last outing, that saw the club bring an end to their seven-game winless streak across competitions when Nottingham Forest visited the Etihad Stadium.

City found themselves in total control by the half-time interval following goals from Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, with the latter and Jeremy Doku providing assists to put the hosts into a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second-half would bring more dominance from Pep Guardiola’s players, but not too much in the way of goals as only Jeremy Doku would strike from an Erling Haaland assist to wrap up the three points and close the gap to Liverpool to nine points.

Speaking on how Manchester City handled criticism during their seven-game winless run across competitions, Jeremy Doku said, “We didn’t listen to the noise of the outside. We just kept working and grinding. We recover and hope to continue this.”

He continued, “We just don’t listen. At the end of the day when everything goes well they’re going to hype you up. When everything goes bad you’re the worst. We don’t listen, we concentrate on ourselves in our bubble. We know together we’ll be stronger.”

“They can say whatever they want. We just stay in our bubble and we’re still in December. If they think it’s over, let them think it’s over. We are going to look game by game, try to win as much as possible, and we will see at the end.”

Manchester City’s next challenge in the top-flight sees them travel to Selhurst Park for a meeting with Crystal Palace, preceding a mammoth week for the club that will entail an away trip to Turin for UEFA Champions League action against Juventus.

City will be desperate for a win in Italy after a loss in Lisbon and a 3-3 draw against Feyenoord on matchday’s three and four respectively, whilst a home Manchester derby follows afterwards in the first English top-flight clash between Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim.
