Pep Guardiola eyes maximum of three new signings for Manchester City squad in January transfer window
Manchester City have been given the green light to sign up to three new players by Pep Guardiola during the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports.
The latest insight into the Premier League champions’ plans for the winter transfer market comes as Pep Guardiola and his players extended their winless run across competitions to seven matches.
Manchester City last won a game in any competition at the end of October as they defeated Southampton in the Premier League via a single Erling Haaland goal at the Etihad Stadium, and continue to face the difficulty of sourcing solutions to their problems.
It was Arne Slot and Liverpool who became the latest team to inflict defeat upon Manchester City as the Merseyside club extended the gap to the Premier League champions to 11 points, as the Etihad Stadium club fell to 5th in the league table.
And while Manchester City and club officials are often opposed to making too many changes during the middle of any competitive season, the upcoming January market could be an exception to the unwritten rule.
According to the information of GIVEMESPORT, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is open to welcoming up to three reinforcements into his squad during the January market, despite originally only eyeing a singular new face.
It is highlighted that City are set to spend the majority of their budget on midfield, while they will also consider bringing in fresh competition at left-back, and an understudy to Erling Haaland in the striker position.
Whilst Guardiola is said to remain confident that he boasts a better full-strength side than all of the club’s Premier League rivals, he is reportedly poised to be active in the winter window with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz among the midfielders on his radar.
Other names to have been reportedly considered by Manchester City and discussed internally are the likes of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, as well as Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Torino’s Samuele Ricci.
However, an early blow to City’s intentions before the winter window has even opened may have already been struck upon the club, with both Palace and Torino claimed to have shutdown any notion of being open to a negotiation.
Manchester City have plenty of work to do between now and the market opening on January 1st on the pitch, with Premier League clashes against Manchester United and Aston Villa upcoming, as well as a European away trip to face Juventus in Turin.
