Manchester City add Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder to January 2025 transfer targets as Rodri absence continues
As Manchester City continue their hunt for a potential midfield arrival in January, Pep Guardiola has now reportedly turned his attentions to the Bundesliga.
With the Premier League champions are known for their sophisticated approach to scouting and recruitment, one player’s ability to read the game and control midfield has caught the attention of the club’s decision-makers.
That same midfielder’s potential to develop into an even more influential player has made him one to watch, particularly as Manchester City’s Guardiola looks to add depth to his already stacked midfield options.
Currently, however, City are dealing with several injury issues in the middle of the park, with Pep Guardiola without all of Rodri, Oscar Bobb, and Mateo Kovacic, leaving his squad thinner than usual.
With key players sidelined, Guardiola’s need for additional options has become even more pressing and Borussia Monchengladbach may have the answer as Manchester City look to improve their chances of remaining competitive even without Rodri.
According to the information of GIVEMESPORT, Pep Guardiola has been keeping tabs on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz, despite the difficulty that is expected to try and lure the midfielder to the Etihad Stadium when the transfer window reopens in January.
It is explained that Manchester City are among the admirers weighing up whether to test Borussia Monchengladbach’s resolve due to being impressed with the 22-year-old’s overall reading of the game.
Whilst Reitz is an attractive prospect due to already thriving in the Bundesliga and showcasing he has a high ceiling, it is explained that Manchester City are keeping their cards close to their chest ahead of potentially heading to the negotiating table for a new midfielder in early 2025.
Given the injury absences of Rodri, Bobb, and Kovacic, the need for a capable and versatile midfielder becomes even more pressing as Manchester City continue to face difficulties in their cross-competition form.
While Guardiola does have strong midfield options, these injuries have left him somewhat short-handed. Reitz’s adaptability and ability to control the game could make him a perfect addition to help cover for the absences.
Despite his promising performances in Germany, a move for Reitz could still be a difficult one for Manchester City to pull off. The competition for his signature is expected to be fierce, and with Borussia Monchengladbach keen to hold onto their star, City will have to weigh up options carefully.
If the club does choose to move forward with a deal, it could potentially come as early as the next transfer window, with the team looking to bolster their options in midfield. However, City will no doubt have to be strategic as they navigate potential negotiations throughout 2025.
