Confirmed Match Officials: Manchester City vs Tottenham (Premier League)
The Premier League have confirmed that John Brooks will oversee proceedings between Manchester City and Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Pep Guardiola and his players return to action following the international break having endured a run of four matches in a row being on the receiving end of a defeat across all competitions.
In fact, it was this weekend’s opponents in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham that kicked off that streak of defeats, having inflicted a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup last month.
Manchester City will be buoyed by a whole host of returning stars this week following improved recovery processes during the international break, but have also been issued with a fresh injury blow to Mateo Kovacic in midfield.
Pep Guardiola’s two-year contract extension also hands plenty of calm, reassurance, and possibly a fresh impetus having issued clarity over his future by extending his stay at the club through to the summer of 2027.
Ahead of the first meeting after the international break between Manchester City and Tottenham, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
Match Referee
As per confirmation from the Premier League, referee John Brooks has been appointed to the meeting between Manchester City and Tottenham as lead on-field match official – his 10th contest across all competitions of the season.
In the Premier League this campaign, the 34-year-old has taken charge of just four matches so far across the division’s 11 fixtures up until this point, issuing a total of 20 yellow cards and awarding one penalty in the process.
Brooks’ last Manchester City match will be one that many supporters of the club will remember, coming on the final matchday of the 2023/24 season and the 3-1 home victory over West Ham United to solidify their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
That outing at the end of the last campaign makes up part of eight matches involving Manchester City that have been overseen by John Brooks, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning six of those outings and losing two – against Aston Villa and Brentford away from home.
Assistant Referees
Accompany John Brooks on the field at the Etihad Stadium will be an assistant referee duo made up of Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan, as per confirmation from the Premier League earlier this week.
Video Assistant Referees
Overseeing proceedings from Stockley Park and the PGMOL’s VAR Hub will be Video Assistant Referee Michael Salisbury, accompanied by Assistant Video Assistant Referee Nick Greenhalgh.
Fourth Official
Ensuring that proceedings between Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou’s two dugouts are kept amicable, and taking on the role of fourth officials for the meeting between Manchester City and Tottenham, will be Peter Bankes.
