Ruben Dias offers major update on recovery from injury as Manchester City prepare for Tottenham clash
Manchester City’s Ruben Dias has issued supporters with a significant update on his recovery from injury ahead of the club’s return to action against Tottenham.
Pep Guardiola’s side have come into the recently-concluded November international break with four successive defeats to their name amid a chaotic battle against injuries hampering the first-team squad.
In the forward line, both Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku have been ruled out of a string of matches in succession, whilst John Stones has been joined by Ruben Dias on the treatment table and Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake both battling niggles.
Those issues have of course accompanied the long-term problems sustained by Oscar Bobb and Rodri, with the latter not expected to play any part in the remainder of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup campaigns this season.
As such, the November international break was viewed as an ideal opportunity for Manchester City to get crucial stars back up to speed with their fitness, with several names dropping out of their respective call-ups to their UEFA Nations League-competing countries.
One figure who appears to have made significant strides towards full fitness ahead of Manchester City’s return to action on Saturday evening in the Premier League is central defensive mainstay Ruben Dias.
The Portugal international was excluded from Roberto Martinez’s latest call-ups on the grounds of a lack of fitness, but has spent time in Lisbon working on his recovery at the national team’s training base.
Dias has also spent time away from the pitch during the international break fulfilling public speaking commitments, as he was present at the Houses of Parliament in London representing an anti-bullying campaign.
Speaking publicly in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, Dias was also in attendance at technology event WebSummit to comment on a multitude of issues including the increased work load on professional footballers.
The Portugal international will join a number of other Manchester City stars in returning from injury, with Wednesday evening’s session at the City Football Academy seeing the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Manuel Akanji, Jack Grealish, and John Stones all return to duty.
Manchester City welcome Tottenham to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening for the return of Premier League action, and will be hoping for better fortunes than their last meeting against Ange Postecoglou’s men following the 2-1 Carabao Cup fourth round exit in October.
