Confirmed Match Officials: Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City (Premier League)
The Premier League have confirmed that Sam Barrott has been appointed to Brighton & Hove Albion against Manchester City as match referee on Saturday evening.
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players will be desperate to get back to winning ways, having sustained three defeats in a row across all competitions for the first time since April 2018.
A Carabao Cup fourth round exit at the hands of Tottenham in North London last week was followed up by the same scoreline in Premier League action, as Bournemouth issued a 2-1 victory over Manchester City just days later.
Rounding off a terrible week of results for Pep Guardiola’s squad was defeat in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, as Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP put four goals past Ederson to send off their 39-year-old head coach to Manchester United in the best possible way.
Things certainly do not get any easier for the Premier League champions as they seek a more positive result, travelling to Fabian Hurzeler’s ever-impressive Brighton side on Saturday, with the south coast club currently eighth in the division.
Ahead of the meeting between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Amex!
Match Referee
This weekend, Sam Barrott will oversee proceedings between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City, with the referee taking charge of his seventh Premier League game of the campaign.
Across his previous six matches, Barrott has issued a total of 36 yellow cards with no dismissals or penalties awarded with his matches including Arsenal’s dramatic 4-2 win over Leicester City and Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
Barrott has only taken charge of a Manchester City match on one previous occasion, overseeing the 3-1 home victory over Burnley at the end of January earlier this year, issuing two yellow cards during that contest.
Assistant Referees
Accompanying Sam Barrott on the field this weekend, and offering their skillset from the role of assistant referees, the Premier League have confirmed that Lee Betts and Steve Meredith will occupy the touchlines.
Video Assistant Referees
Overseeing matters from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park this weekend, the Premier League have confirmed Jarred Gillett will occupy the role of Video Assistant Referee, with Stuart Burt in the role of Assistant Video Assistant Referee.
Fourth Official
As for the final appointment of the weekend, and ensuring that matters between Fabian Hurzeler and Pep Guardiola are kept in order in the Amex dugouts will be Andy Davies in the role of fourth official.
