“I was pressing and then” – Oscar Bobb reveals how he fractured leg during Manchester City training session
Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb has opened up on the circumstances that led to a fractured bone in his leg during a training session over the summer.
The Norway international was widely tipped to undergo a full breakthrough campaign with the Premier League champions, having emerged as the standout talent throughout their pre-season tour of the United States.
Bobb’s performances Stateside also followed a number of individual moments during the previous season, particularly a late winning goal against Newcastle United at St James’ Park to inspire the club on to winning a record-breaking fourth consecutive top-flight title.
However, in the week running up to Manchester City’s Premier League opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, news had filtered out from the club’s training base that Oscar Bobb had sustained a serious non-contact injury that was later revealed to be bone fracture in his leg.
Now speaking exclusively to Manchester City’s official podcast, Oscar Bobb has revealed the detailed circumstances within a training session over the summer that led to his sustained leg fracture ahead of the Premier League season starting for the club away to Chelsea.
“I was pressing and then my foot got stuck, slipped with the other one, sort of fell back on my leg,” Bobb revealed, before admitting, But it wasn’t too painful, it was just annoying.”
Discussing whether he has any particular timeframe in mind ahead of a return to Manchester City activities, the 21-year-old continued, “No, I think my objective is just to get back as strong as possible, actually not as soon as possible.
“So it might take a few more months, but then I’ll be happy.”
For now, Manchester City will remain focussed on the task at hand, despite eagerly anticipating the return of a player who will certainly bring plenty of quality to numerous positions in the club’s attacking set-up.
Whilst Bobb has been sidelined through his ongoing recovery process, Savinho has been granted a free-run at the right-wing berth in the attacking trio, offering immediate qualities to Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, the City manager has previously admitted that Oscar Bobb is one of his planned solutions for moments when Erling Haaland is in need of rest, or the fellow Norwegian striker is suffering from a fitness issue.
