Manchester City sustain eighth major injury blow as star forward stretchered off against Tottenham

Savinho has become the eighth injured player sustained by Manchester City causing further havoc to Pep Guardiola’s selection dilemmas.

The injury to the Brazilian comes after television broadcasters confirmed prior to kick-off that a late change had been made to Manchester City’s starting line-up as a result of a calf issue sustained by Manuel Akanji in the warm-ups.

And now, the latest issue sustained by the City first-team sees Savinho forced off against Tottenham just after the hour mark in North London and via the aid of a stretcher following an problem to his right ankle.

Issues to Savinho and Manuel Akanji mean Manchester City’s injury list has been extended to eight names at a crucial phase of their season with three remaining away trips before the November international break.

Kyle Walker remains sidelined after sustaining a knee problem during the October international break and duties with England, while both Ballon d’Or winning Rodri and young starlet Oscar Bobb remain absent through longer-term issues.

Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined for Manchester City despite returning to first-team training in the last few weeks, with his manager Pep Guardiola insisting that the Belgian is continuing to lack match sharpness and 100 per cent fitness.

Additionally, and creating further problems out wide for City and Pep Guardiola, both Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are sidelined with injury problems with the latter sustaining an issue in training after the 1-2 win over Wolves, in which his teammate Doku was also injured.

Manchester City have a couple of days rest and recovery before taking another flight to the south of England as they visit Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with Pep Guardiola set to issue an update on his squad on Friday.
