Manchester City identify Brighton star as Ilkay Gundogan replacement
Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton over the summer.
At the end of the season, Manchester City’s midfield could be losing at least one of its key players, as Ilkay Gundogan’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Despite talk of a new deal for the German, the current Manchester City skipper has been linked with a possible free transfer to Barcelona.
Bernardo Silva could also be set for an exit from the Etihad Stadium after recently reaffirming his desire to play elsewhere in Europe.
Etihad officials have already taken steps to address this potential vacancy with the acquisition of Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield in the Argentinian Primera Division last month.
However, the Cityzens may not be done bolstering their midfield as they are reportedly interested in Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.
According to Ekrem Konur, Manchester City are keen on signing the World Cup winner as a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan when his time in East Manchester comes to a close at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has spent the previous four seasons with Brighton, scoring 11 goals and netting three assists for the Seagulls.
Perhaps the highlight of his career so far was his part in Argentina’s World Cup win in 2022.
The Brighton midfielder scored a goal against Poland in the group stage, and grabbed an important assist in the World Cup Final against France.
The reigning Premier League champions are not the only team interested in the World Cup winner, with interest from both England and elsewhere in Europe.
