Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued fresh praise to Savinho, who has started life at the Etihad Stadium in exemplary fashion.

Whilst the 20-year-old is yet to record his first goal in a Manchester City shirt after joining the club in a big-money move from ESTAC Troyes in the summer, he has been able to light up the pitch with his attacking flair and direct approach to the game.

Savinho, in turn, has also been able to offer three assists for his Manchester City teammates and is looking to increase his goalscoring output as he becomes more and more accustomed to the way the English game is played and how he can play alongside his teammates.

Despite the ongoing learning from the player, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s fans have remained hugely impressed by Savinho, and his responsibilities on the pitch are only set to increase in the coming weeks and matches come thick and fast for the club.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Guardiola issued fresh praise upon Savinho as the Brazil international continues to impress onlookers with his start to life in the City team.

“I have the feeling he wants to be the best, he wants to be the best on the pitch, he wants to try things, he participates in everything, he has courage, he has the ball and tries again,” said Guardiola.

“He’s not scoring goals but he’s trying, and shooting, and in the last game against Wolves, it was a free-kick and he wanted to take it!”

He continued, “He’s a young guy, and I have the feeling he is here to become a good, good player and that defines really, really good players.

“And he’s on the verge, with this consistency, with this ambition, he will get it.”

Wednesday night brought more additions to his goalscoring contributions as Savinho provided the crucial assist for Erling Haaland’s sensational scorpion kick goal against Sparta Prague in UEFA Champions League action.

While most of the credit will rightly go to the Norwegian for the individual brilliance shown in the finish, Savinho’s ever-present threat was on show for all to see throughout the contest, and was rightly rewarded with a statistic in an assist.

It is highly likely that the winger will start once again for Manchester City this weekend, with the injuries to Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku, in addition to Oscar Bobb, leaving Pep Guardiola very light in wide areas.
