Why Kyle Walker is absent from Manchester City’s squad against Wolves in Premier League clash
Kyle Walker is absent from the Manchester City squad to face Wolves in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester City travel away to face Wolves following the international break last week and will be desperate to secure three points.
Following Arsenal’s defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday and Liverpool set to face a difficult clash against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s men could grab some important momentum at the Molineux Stadium.
Guardiola has named a strong team to play against Wolves but it was quickly noticed that club captain Kyle Walker was absent from the squad.
Rico Lewis continues in the right-back position after a positive start to the season. Meanwhile, he is joined by John Stones, Ruben Dias and Joško Gvardiol in the backline.
It has been confirmed by the club that Walker’s absence is due to the captain not being ‘fully fit’ heading into the clash.
Walker played 90 minutes against Finland for England before returning to City’s training ground last week.
It was also noted by reporters that the right-back had missed the first phase of City’s training session on Thursday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola explained that the problem for Walker stems from his time with the England camp last week.
The manager told reporters before the game: “He doesn’t feel good after the national team, so he does not travel.”
This is a developing story. More to follow.
