Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has been seeking an exit from the club for a number of seasons now, but transfer deadline day is not set to be his time to leave.

The Portuguese midfielder has been at the centre of a number of high-profile transfer sagas in recent windows, most recently coming last summer, when the former AS Monaco man was linked with a switch to La Liga giants FC Barcelona.

However, City were demanding his transfer value to them – which was understood to be in the region of £90 million, and as such, Barcelona backed down and refused to get anywhere near to such a sum due to their ongoing financial problems.

Nevertheless, the player’s future remains somewhat uncertain, despite Manchester City’s intention to iron our the player’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer market, when some believe that the player could once again seek a polite exit from the Etihad Stadium.

On transfer deadline day, there had been some suggestions from Portugal that Bernardo Silva would be allowed to follow Joao Cancelo out of the football club – with the latter set to join Bayern Munich on a loan deal until the end of the season, with a purchase option at €70 million.

That is not understood to be the case, however.

As per reporting from Ben Ransom of Sky Sports, Bernardo Silva will be staying at Manchester City beyond transfer deadline day and for the remainder of the season, with there being no possibility of him leaving the club at this stage in the window.

Silva has played a significant role in Manchester City’s season so far, registering 30 appearances across all competitions, as well as scoring two goals and providing five assists in the process.

The 28 year-old’s role has somewhat changed in recent weeks, with the Portugal international operating in more of a deep-lying midfield role alongside Rodri – as highlighted in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

That afternoon, the midfielder was often found receiving the ball in between Manchester City’s two central defenders, carrying the ball further into midfield and into some of the team’s more direct players such as Kevin De Bruyne.

Whether or not this is a long-term solution to some of Pep Guardiola’s problems seen in recent weeks, only time will tell.
