“I’ve said” – Pep Guardiola maintains silence on Manchester City future amid contract expiry concerns
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has maintained his silence on his future at the Etihad Stadium, as his contract heads closer towards its natural expiry this season.
The 54-year-old is currently into the final year of his Manchester City contract, having last signed a fresh deal alongside club officials in the Autumn of their eventual Treble-winning season in 2022/23.
At present, there is currently no sign of contractual talks ongoing between Manchester City’s hierarchy and Pep Guardiola or his representatives, although their remains a feeling of calm within the club around the situation.
The understanding at present is that as a mark of respect for what has been achieved under the legendary Catalan tactician, Manchester City will not apply any pressure on Guardiola to make a decision any time soon, in turn trusting their close relationship.
But speaking ahead of the club’s meeting with Fulham on Saturday afternoon, Pep Guardiola has maintained silence regarding his future at the Etihad, amid growing concerns amongst supporters as to whether he will remain at the club beyond this season.
“I’ve said at the beginning of the press conference, I’m not going to talk about this subject,” Guardiola responded. “What is going to happen is going to happen,” he continued.
Potential replacements for Pep Guardiola have also not been mooted within the media, despite the situation surrounding the manager’s current contract at the club. However, the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer of 2025 adds an extra complication into proceedings.
At present, the tournament will take place during the time in which Guardiola’s contract would expire with Manchester City. Terms have already been ironed out over the situation concerning players with expiring deals, enabling them to sign short extensions to feature.
Pep Guardiola has already hinted towards his plans for the FIFA Club World Cup at Manchester City, suggesting that he will bring the club’s entire squad to the United States for the tournament, in somewhat of an indication that he plans to remain at the club by that point.
