Manchester City travel to St James’ Park in the early Saturday lunchtime kick-off hoping to return to winning way in the Premier League.

It has been a successful start to the season for Pep Guardiola and his players, remaining unbeaten across all competitions but looking to overcome the ultimate challenge of remaining a leading force in the pursuit of major silverware without the injured Rodri.

Last time out saw Manchester City held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal in an enthralling Premier League battle, before defeating Watford in the third round of the Carabao Cup just 49 hours later at the Etihad Stadium.

Newcastle have their own need for a victory this weekend, hoping to bounce back from a crushing defeat at the hands of Fulham last weekend, having been beaten 3-1 by Marco Silva’s players at Craven Cottage.

Aside from the long-term ACL and meniscus injury sustained by Rodri, all of Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne, and Oscar Bobb remain absent for Manchester City, and may not return to action until after the October international break.

Ahead of the confirmed team news from St James’ Park this weekend, some initial information has began to filter throughout social media from journalists and sources regarding Manchester City’s starting line-up.

According to the information of reliable early team news sources ‘FPLToni’ on X, both Erling Haaland and Rico Lewis start for Manchester City against Newcastle United, with the former returning from a period of personal absence throughout the week.

In a notable update from the Newcastle dressing room, MailSport’s Craig Hope has detailed that star striker Alexander Isak appeared to be absent from the squad arriving at St James’ Park, with Eddie Howe confirming a toe injury had put him in doubt for the weekend.

Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola are expected to confirmed their respective Newcastle United and Manchester City starting line-ups around 11:45 (UK) on Saturday morning.
