Inter Milan issue classy response to major Manchester City injury news
Manchester City have received a classy response from Inter Milan following confirmation around Rodri’s injury sustained at the weekend.
The Spanish international was withdrawn inside the opening 25 minutes of the weekend’s enthralling 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in Premier League action, appearing to be in serious discomfort having sustained the knee injury on an attacking corner.
Marshalled by Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, the 28-year-old dropped immediately to the ground and signalled for medical attention, before leaving the pitch without the need for a stretcher, but with assistance from two Manchester City doctors.
Having now travelled to Spain to undertake further examination and testing on the injury, as well as medical professionals’ advice and opinion, Rodri has received best wishes from the first opposition club on social media.
That has come from Manchester City’s 2023 UEFA Champions League final opponents, and the side that Rodri struck home the winning goal against to bring European’s premier club title back to the Etihad Stadium.
In a direct response to City’s club statement confirming Rodri’s injury on Wednesday morning, Serie A champions Inter Milan responded, “Wishing Rodri a speedy recovery! Come back stronger, champ.”
The response from Manchester City’s opening UEFA Champions League opponents followed a statement from the Premier League champions that read, “Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.
“The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League. The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.”
The official statement continued, “Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis. Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Manchester City are likely to continue for the period of absence concerning Rodri with Mateo Kovacic as their go-to defensive midfield solution, but could also rotate between the Croatian and more versatile options.
In recent seasons, Pep Guardiola has utilised a multitude of players in the role as a duo, and this season alone has already trialled the likes of Rico Lewis, Nico O’Reilly, and Ilkay Gundogan in the role.
There has also been conversation among some supporters whether the likes of Bernardo Silva, who could add much-needed legs in defensive areas of midfield, could act as more than capable options during Rodri’s extended period away from the team.
