The Premier League have confirmed that Jarred Gillett will take charge of Manchester City’s next top-flight encounter against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

It will be the first time that Pep Guardiola and his players embark on English top-flight action since their battle at the Etihad Stadium against Arsenal, resulting in a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon.

Despite dropping points, the result ensured that Manchester City remained top of the division and clear of Mikel Arteta’s side by two points, whilst also maintaining their unbeaten start to the new season.

City have on-field duties to embark on before their visit to St James’ Park, as they take on Watford at the Etihad Stadium in the third round of the Carabao Cup, whilst Newcastle’s tie away to AFC Wimbledon has been postponed and rescheduled until early October.

Ahead of the meeting between Newcastle United and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon!

Match Referee

Jarred Gillett has been appointed by the Premier League to oversee on-field events between Newcastle United and Manchester City at St James’ Park on Saturday lunchtime.

The 37-year-old will be taking charge of his fourth English top-flight match of the brand new season, having issued a total of 18 yellow cards, no red cards, and awarding no penalties in the process.

The Australian-born official has already taken charge of one Manchester City match this season, having been appointed to the FA Community Shield clash against Manchester United, issuing two yellow cards in a contest won by Pep Guardiola’s side on penalties.

Across all of his matches involving Manchester City, Pep Guardiola’s players have emerged as victors on six occassions, drawing one match, and seeing seven yellow cards and two penalties issued in the process.

The 3-3 draw between Newcastle United and Manchester City in 2022 was also overseen by Jarred Gillett at St James’ Park, when the hosts thought they had gone down to 10 men with Kieran Trippier shown a red card for a knee-high trip on Kevin De Bruyne. Gillett downgraded it to a yellow after watching the incident again on a pitchside monitor.

Assistant Referees

Supporting Jarred Gillett on the field at St James’ Park on Saturday will be Darren Cann and Akil Howson, who have been appointed as the match’s assistant referees.

Video Assistant Referees

Overseeing matters from Stockley Park at the VAR Hub, Video Assistant Referee duties have been handed to Stuart Attwell, with support from Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Timothy Wood.

Fourth Official

Robert Jones has been selected as the match’s fourth official and will be overseeing matters from the dugout involving Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola’s respective sides.
