Simone Inzaghi has issued a strange dig at Manchester Airport decision makers over the disruption caused to their travel plans after the meeting with Manchester City.

The Italian champions played out a somewhat eventful 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, opening up their account for another UEFA Champions League season and sharing the points with the 2023 competition winners.

With matches coming thick and fast for both clubs, their respective schedules require swift turnarounds between matches. However, organisers at the San Siro club were forced to extend their stay in England by at least 12 hours after the game at the Etihad Stadium.

That is due to matters outside of both club’s control, but a situation that still left Inter manager Simone Inzaghi perplexed when quizzed on the issue after the contest on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium, Inter head coach Inzaghi was keen to point out the disruption that had been caused to their travel plans as a result of Manchester Airport and their ‘opening hours’.

“We’ll be flying home tomorrow,” Inzaghi confirmed, despite the intention to fly back to the Italian capital immediately after their clash against Manchester City.

He continued, “Apparently Manchester Airport closes early, so we’ll be staying in a hotel tonight.”

It is understood that Simone Inzaghi and the Inter Milan squad returned to Italy early on Thursday morning, with their focus now turning back to Serie A duties and a mammoth clash on Sunday night.

Inter will face the test of a meeting with city rivals AC Milan at the San Siro, who were on the receiving end of a home defeat in their opening UEFA Champions League match of the season, having been defeated by Premier League giants Liverpool.
