Manchester City officials sent on UEFA Champions League scouting mission on Wednesday night

Officials representing Manchester City have been sent on a UEFA Champions League scouting mission on Wednesday night, according to reports.

Work will remain ongoing away from the Etihad Stadium despite Pep Guardiola’s side remaining firmly focussed on their own task at home, as Inter travel to the north-west of England on matchday one of the competition’s league phase.

In a repeat of the 2023 UEFA Champions League final that induces fond memories for all those of a Manchester City persuasion, Guardiola’s squad will be looking to lay down an early marker for their competitors in the tournament.

However, whilst officials close to the first-team squad will remain focussed on events on the field at the Etihad Stadium, a new report has detailed the recruitment and scouting task that is ongoing away from the club.

That is according to the information of Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, translated by Sport Witness, who report that City will be among several Premier League clubs with scouts present at the Champions League meeting between Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund.

It is further revealed that City’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Manchester United will also all have scouts at present at the contest on Wednesday night.

It may be the case that scouts representing Manchester City are looking to gauge an early idea as to what to expect from Club Brugge in the competition, as Pep Guardiola’s side take on the Belgian club on matchday eight of the league phase at home.

However, there are also a number of talents that could be of interest to Manchester City and the other clubs present at Wednesday night’s game, including the likes of Yan Couto – who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund from the Etihad club.

The Brazilian is widely expected to join Borussia Dortmund on a permanent agreement at the end of the ongoing season however, with the Bundesliga side having an obligation to buy next summer for €30 million.
