Glenn Nyberg will take charge of Manchester City’s opening league phase encounter in the revamped UEFA Champions League against Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

City come into the contest hoping to mount another serious pursuit of Europe’s leading prize, having won the competition for the first time back in 2022/23 with a final victory over this week’s opponents over in Istanbul.

Pep Guardiola’s side have started their new season in perfect fashion, securing four victories in their opening four Premier League matches, and claiming their first piece of silverware via an FA Community Shield win over Manchester United.

As for this week’s opponents, the Italian giants are hoping to continue their excellent rise within the wider European scene by putting together another strong battle for continental glory.

In Serie A, Inter have registered two wins and two draws from their opening four fixtures, rescuing a point over the weekend thanks to a late Denzel Dumfries equaliser to draw 1-1 against Monza.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s opening Champions League encounter in the brand new league phase for Manchester City, UEFA have now confirmed the team of match officials to take charge of the meeting with Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium.

Match Referee

Glenn Nyberg has been appointed by UEFA to Manchester City’s meeting with Inter Milan in the league phase of the Champions League, taking on the role of lead match official on the field.

This will be only the second time that the 35-year-old has taken charge of a match involving Pep Guardiola’s side, with the last outing seeing Manchester City emerge 3-2 victors over RB Leipzig in last season’s Champions League group stage.

The Swedish match official will also be taking charge of his second Champions League match of the season, having guided proceedings in the qualifying stage of the competition as Dinamo Zagreb defeated Qarabag FK via a 3-0 scoreline.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Glenn Nyberg on the Etihad Stadium pitch on Wednesday night will be fellow Swedish match officials Mahbod Beigi (37) and Andreas Söderkvist (36), who take on the roles of assistant referees.

Video Assistant Referees

Overseeing VAR operations will be Dutch official Pol van Boekel (48), appointed to the role of Video Assistant Referee, accompanied by Spanish official Ricardo de Burgos (38) in the Assistant Video Assistant Referee role.

Fourth Official

Keeping things on check on the touchline between Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Inter’s Simone Inzaghi will be Swedish official, Adam Ladebäck (32) in the role of fourth official.
