Nathan Ake to miss SEVEN Manchester City matches through horror injury
Manchester City will be without Nathan Ake for at least their next seven matches across all competitions after the defender sustained a horror injury this week.
The 29-year-old was withdrawn on the stroke of half-time in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Germany in the UEFA Nations League earlier this week, stretchered off the pitch and being brought to tears by the injury.
Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman later revealed the belief within the international camp that the versatile defender had sustained a muscular injury, with Ake himself appearing to clutch his hamstring when chasing a loose ball.
Manchester City returned to training at the City Football Academy on Wednesday afternoon, and Nathan Ake has been absent from all subsequent sessions, with it currently unknown as to whether medical staff at the club have had chance to assess the problem.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s meeting with Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, Pep Guardiola revealed that Nathan Ake would be ruled out for several weeks following the injury sustained against Germany.
The Manchester City coach revealed that Ake would be ruled out of action until the next international break which is due next month, and as such it is believed the Dutchman will miss an initial total of seven matches across all competitions.
Pep Guardiola further admitted, “We are unlucky with Nathan (Ake) and the (Netherlands) international team; every time he goes there, he comes back injured.”
At present, Nathan Ake is now expected to miss seven meetings for Manchester City across the coming weeks starting with Saturday afternoon’s Premier League clash against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.
Ake will then miss Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League return as Inter travel to the Etihad Stadium, before a mammoth run of games until the next international break featuring Arsenal (H), Watford (H), Newcastle (A), Bratislava (A), Fulham (H) across competitions.
