Hearing date confirmed for Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules

Manchester City will begin their battle with the Premier League over their 115 alleged breaches of the division’s financial rules imminently, it has been reported.

The Premier League’s CEO Richard Masters said earlier this year that he now believes “it is time for the case to resolve itself,” holding a belief as a result of the issue having been ongoing for a ‘number of years.

When quizzed on whether the case involving Manchester City casts a shadow over the Premier League, Masters told BBC Sport, “It’s been going on for a number of years and I think it’s self-evident that the case needs to be heard and answered.”

In a move that will likely spike the interest of all Premier League clubs, and particularly Manchester City’s immediate rivals in the English top-flight, the hearing into the alleged financial breaches is expected to commence imminently.

That is according to the information of MailSport this week, who state that the hearing into Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules will begin on Monday 16 September. It is further highlighted that City declined to comment on the matter.

The Premier League first confirmed the issued charges to Manchester City following a four-year investigation in February 2023, referring the club to an independent commission over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

The Premier League have also accused Manchester City of not co-operating since the investigation started in December 2018, with the champions of the division responding by stating that they were “surprised” by the charge.

City have also maintained the stance that they are supported by a “body of irrefutable evidence”, in a statement that they have pushed forward to the forefront of their comments whenever questioned on the matter.

The independent commission can impose punishments on Manchester City ranging from a fine and points deduction to expulsion from the Premier League, should the Etihad Stadium club be found guilty of significant wrongdoing.
