Manchester City “will be there” for Bayern Munich superstar, reveals Fabrizio Romano in bumper update
Fabrizio Romano has revealed both Real Madrid and Manchester City will no doubt be in the race to sign Jamal Musiala, should the player not extend his Bayern Munich deal.
From the side of the Etihad Stadium club and Pep Guardiola’s playing squad, the 2025 summer transfer window could mark a significant need for change within the attacking midfield region of the operation.
Kevin De Bruyne is currently into the final year of his current Manchester City agreement, and whilst not shutting down the possibility of a further extension, all parties are likely to assess his fitness and ability to compete at the very top level before making a call on that front.
Additionally, Bernardo Silva remains an uncertain case within the squad despite his contract extension last summer, consistently entertaining the idea of a move to warmer climates in the near future.
As such, Manchester City’s transfer bosses will no doubt be forming together succession plans for a vital area of their playing style, and a new talent coming into the squad could emerge from the Bundesliga.
Speaking at length during a bumper update on his official YouTube channel, transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayern Munich will be determined to retain the services of Jamal Musiala, despite confirmed interest from Manchester City.
“Not considering the possibility of Jamal Musiala leaving the club this summer was Bayern Munich,” Romano clarified whilst looking back on the most-recent summer transfer window.
“Because the reality was this summer, despite before the Euros we had some stories, Jamal Musiala was never, never going to leave Bayern for Manchester City for any other club, despite the rumours of Man City, Real Madrid, many other clubs,” he continued.
“This summer was never a topic. But it is also important to say that the mission for Bayern is absolutely on; Bayern want to extend the contract of Jamal Musiala, and this is a really important mission of this board, of this management.
“For them it’s absolutely crucial to make it happen and to reach an agreement with Jamal Musiala. And as Max Eberl, the director, says for Bayern this is an important situation because they want Musiala one of the faces of the future for Bayern’s project.
“So he’s more than a player, he has to be the brand of Bayern, as a German player, as a fantastic player, fantastic talent – for Bayern, this is a really important mission. They already presented a new contract proposal to Jamal Musiala.
“So there is already a conversation, there is already a kind of negotiation. It is not a fast one, it is not something they will resolve tonight or tomorrow, but there is a conversation, there is an exchange.”
The Bundesliga giants are ready to show their faith in the player by investing big money into his talents, with Fabrizio Romano going on to explain, “Bayern are ready to offer really important money to Jamal Musiala in terms of fixed salary, in terms of add-ons, in terms of special bonuses to make it happen, and to keep him at the club.
“Current contract expires in summer 2026, so Bayern have to resolve this situation before summer 2025, so next summer. Otherwise it could be kind of dangerous to keep a player like Musiala with one year left on his contract.
“So Bayern are on it, Bayern are pushing, and this is a crucial mission for this management.”
On the subject of Manchester City, alongside other potentially interested clubs in the upcoming transfer windows, Fabrizio Romano has continued to explain, “Guys, I can guarantee to you that all the top clubs, including Real Madrid, including Man City, including more clubs in England – they all love Jamal Musiala.
“And in case he can’t agree a deal with Bayern, they will be there, for sure. Many clubs, not just Real Madrid, not just Man City. But at the moment, Bayern are playing their cards, Bayern are in negotiations with Musiala, so let’s wait, let’s see what happens, let’s see how this conversation will go. But for sure, Bayern are working to keep Jamal Musiala at the club.”
Manchester City fans will be well aware of the success that the Bundesliga has brought to the club in terms of talents, having signed a number of high-profile names from the division over the years under their Abu Dhabi ownership.
Kevin De Bruyne will dominate that conversation having joined the club in the summer of 2015 from Wolfsburg, whilst City have also recruited the likes of Leroy Sane, Stefan Ortega Moreno, and Vincent Kompany from German football.
