Manchester City executives SLAMMED by supporters in fresh ticketing row
Manchester City supporters have reacted angrily to the club’s pricing of UEFA Champions League tickets.
Pep Guardiola’s side will bid to lift the European trophy for the second time in three seasons during the 2024/25 campaign, with Manchester City involved in a new-look version of the UEFA Champions League competition.
The tournament has been reformed to feature a 36-team league-phase, with Manchester City playing eight matches against eight different opponents between September and January, with four fixtures at home and four away.
The Sky Blues will need to finish in the top eight of the 36-team league table to automatically qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League, with Guardiola’s side facing a number of crunch clashes as part of the league-phase.
Manchester City were selected to play Inter Milan, Sparta Prague, Feyenoord and Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium, alongside away matches against Slovan Bratislava, Sporting CP, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
UEFA have introduced an away ticketing cap for fixtures in the Champions League this season, however Manchester City’s pricing of home tickets for the matchday one clash against Inter Milan has sparked widespread outrage.
Etihad bosses, who came under fire recently for announcing fresh season-ticket price hikes and forcing disabled supporters to pay for car parking, have been slammed for selling some tickets for this month’s clash against Inter Milan for £72.50.
Fan group 1894, reacted on social media, saying: “Club not listening again over match day prices, no doubt fans will pay again through gritted teeth, very hard if you want to bring a family, it’s simply going to stoke anger and people will eventually snap.”
Manchester City fan account ‘City Tactics’ said: “If you’re in the Cup scheme you’re paying 50p less for Inter Milan (first match of an eight match group stage) than you paid for Real Madrid in last season’s quarter final. Cheapest ticket for Inter Milan is up 70% compared to the RB Leipzig (group stage 2nd seeds) match last season.”
Manchester City are due to face Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 18 September.
