Why Savinho and Phil Foden are absent from the Manchester City squad vs West Ham with knee injury confirmed
Pep Guardiola is without both Phil Foden and Savinho for the club’s Premier League meeting with West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
Phil Foden is once again absent from Manchester City matchday action, having come down with an illness following his Premier League debut for the campaign in a 0-2 win over Chelsea on the opening weekend.
The newly-crowned PFA Player of the Year was absent from the club’s opening home game against Ipswich Town last weekend, while Pep Guardiola has been quick to reassure supporters that the England superstar will not be out for a prolonged period of time.
“No (he will not be out for long),” Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference. “Hopefully after the international break he’ll be ready.”
“Playing against Chelsea 45 minutes, and after he didn’t feel good, and we made tests, he feels good, and much better, but still he doesn’t feel perfect and we prefer to give that time to recover, be fine, and after when he comes back from the international break, be ready for the next games.”
As for Brazil international Savinho, Manchester City’s only big-money signing has now been ruled out of action at the London Stadium having sustained a knee injury, Pep Guardiola confirmed to reporters ahead of the contest.
“10 days off and hopefully he can recover,” Guardiola said upon arrival at West Ham United, in comments that may indicate that there is not too much concern around the injury, with a return to action expected immediately after the international break.
