Manchester City discover Carabao Cup third round opponents following completed draw
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players have now discovered their opponents for the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Manchester City will bid to win the Carabao Cup for the fifth time under the management of Pep Guardiola this season, with the Sky Blues having failed to lift the trophy since 2021, when they beat Tottenham at Wembley Stadium in the League Cup final.
The Carabao Cup is one of five further trophies on offer to Manchester City this season, although the Blues were dumped out of the competition in the third round last year, losing 1-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Manchester City will begin their UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns next month, with the newly-formatted Champions League impacting the scheduling of the League Cup, and forcing Guardiola’s side to be involved in a unique pre-draw.
City, who are unable to play teams who are involved in the Europa League, lifted their first trophy of the season at Wembley Stadium earlier this month, beating local rivals Manchester United in the FA Community Shield.
Guardiola’s side will be hopeful of reaching the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium in March, and will begin their League Cup campaign against Watford at the Etihad Stadium, following the completion of the third round draw.
