Manchester City midfielder returns from season-long loan after just ONE game following “at least four month” injury
A season-long loan in the Football League has ended after just one match for Mahamadou Susoho, who has returned to Manchester City with an injury.
The Spaniard was embarking on his first full season in senior men’s football, having caught the attention of Manchester City’s coaching staff throughout the last campaign and earning himself a concrete spot in first-team activities.
Despite not taking on significant game time, Susoho managed to register his competitive Manchester City debut in the UEFA Champions League, as well as starring in their recent pre-season tour of the United States.
That undoubtedly caught the eyes of numerous suitors from across the game, but Manchester City felt it necessary to keep the player within the English pyramid, and utilise the project on offer at Peterborough following the success of Jadel Katongo last season.
However, the dream of securing a regular spot in the League One side’s line-up has come to an abrupt end after just one match under his belt, following a serious muscular injury which has now been confirmed and detailed by the club themselves.
Peterborough United have revealed that their season-long loanee, Susoho has now returned to Manchester City after sustaining a serious thigh injury that has ruled him out for “at least four months”.
Whilst Susoho’s loan has formally been terminated and he has now returned to the City Football Academy for his recovery process, Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has shown his support by insisting that the club will likely return for the Spaniard in January.
As per the Peterborough Telegraph, Ferguson explained, “He’ll be out for at least four months as we feared; it’s probably about as bad an injury as you can get to that area.”
He continued, “We’ve sent him back to Man City and we will keep in touch with him and the aim will be to get him back in January on loan for the rest of the season.
“I felt for him, it’s his first loan and he’s a young kid. It’s a real blow to us.”
Mahamadou Susoho was among a number of names to have left Manchester City’s Academy system this summer in search of regular game time within the Football League or at the senior level of the men’s game.
Callum Doyle, for example, is embarking on his fourth successive loan spell in the Football League, following up stints with Coventry City, Sunderland, and Leicester City by joining Norwich City for the ongoing campaign.
