Oscar Bobb’s injury may not force Manchester City into the transfer market after all and this is why
Manchester City may not be forced into the transfer market as a direct result of Oscar Bobb’s freak injury sustained in training earlier this week.
The Norway international succumbed to an accidental fracture of a bone in his leg during Manchester City training on Wednesday, with the player now expected to undergo surgery on the injury on Friday.
Speaking to the media regarding Oscar Bobb’s injury and wellbeing during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Pep Guardiola said, “It was in training, and unfortunately had a big impact. I think he will do surgery, hopefully it will go well and we are awaiting for him to come back as soon as possible in three or four months.”
Guardiola continued, “We are so sad for him, but not because he made an incredible pre-season. It doesn’t matter about that. When you’re injured for a long time, always it’s a problem, and we’re looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible.”
With Bobb’s injury following Julian Alvarez’s exit from the club in a €95 million transfer to Atletico Madrid, some have debated whether Manchester City may need to return to the market this month in order to add to their squad in terms of personnel.
But according to the information of MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, City are ‘deliberating’ their next moves in the summer transfer market, remaining mindful of the fact that Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Savinho are all still options in Oscar Bobb’s area of the pitch.
Some of the conversations surrounding potential new signings have centred around recruitment in the centre of the park, with the likes of Eberechi Eze and Bruno Guimaraes understood to be holding admiration from within the Etihad Stadium.
The former could be the more likely of the two options, with the understanding in various quarters being that the England international has a release clause active in his Crystal Palace contract worth in the region of £60 million.
As for Guimaraes, the Brazilian would require direct negotiations with Newcastle United over a transfer fee, with his £100 million release clause having expired earlier this summer without interest from any of his potential admirers across European football.
