Pep Guardiola breaks silence on Oscar Bobb’s horror injury in major Manchester City squad update
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed further details regarding Oscar Bobb’s devastating leg injury.
The 21-year-old, who has starred during pre-season for Manchester City in the United States, has been sidelined for the opening months of the campaign after suffering a leg fracture during training at the City Football Academy this week.
Bobb started the FA Community Shield win at Wembley Stadium last weekend, and would have been in contention to start Manchester City’s opening Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Norwegian international has travelled to Barcelona to undergo surgery on the injury, and is expected to miss an initial three to four months of the campaign, ruling the forward out of fixtures in a number of competitions for both club and country.
The forward featured 26 times for Manchester City last season, including making 14 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Bobb’s injury comes amidst Etihad bosses approving the club-record sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, and amid Manchester City exploring the transfer market to sign a new midfielder and forward during the final weeks of the window.
Speaking about Bobb’s injury ahead of Sunday’s visit to west London, Guardiola said: “It was in the training session, and unfortunately had a big impact on his injury. I think he will do surgery this afternoon, hopefully it will go well and we are awaiting for him to come back as soon as possible in three or four months.”
“We are so sad for him, but not because he made an incredible pre-season. It doesn’t matter about that. When you’re injured for a long time, always it’s a problem, and we’re looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible.”
Manchester City will also be without Rodri for Sunday’s visit to west London, with Guardiola revealing that the Spaniard hasn’t trained with the squad, having suffered a hamstring injury in the European Championship final.
Manchester City were also without Jack Grealish due to injury at Wembley Stadium last weekend, and only welcomed back Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden for pre-season training this week.
Discussing the fitness of the three players, Guardiola said: “We’ll see, today, tomorrow, and Sunday we’ll see the line-up. I’m pretty sure they’re ready, maybe not for 90 minutes, maybe yes, or maybe for a few minutes. What’s important is everybody is back.
“Just two or three training sessions. They arrived fit, in good shape. Today, in the professional world, the players take care of themselves even on holidays.”
