Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has completed a season-long loan move to Ipswich Town.

The midfielder has completed his second successive temporary exit away from the Etihad Stadium, signing for newly-promoted Ipswich Town for the 2024/25 campaign, having spent six months at West Ham United last season.

Phillips becomes Ipswich’s second addition from Manchester City this summer, after Liam Delap completed a permanent move to Portman Road in July, with the striker costing £20 million.

The 28-year-old moved to Manchester City for £42 million from Leeds United in 2022, and despite winning six trophies, the Englishman has made just six starts and 31 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Phillips last featured for Manchester City in December, playing during the Sky Blues’ FIFA Club World Cup campaign in Saudi Arabia against Urawa Red Diamonds.

The midfielder also featured across the Premier League and UEFA Europa League for West Ham last season, but was forced to return to the Etihad Stadium in May due to a season-ending hamstring injury.

As the 28-year-old becomes the second Manchester City player to move to the Suffolk-based club this summer, here is everything you need to know about the transfer!

The Englishman has completed a straight season-long move to Portman Road for the 2024/25 campaign, and will be ineligible to feature against Manchester City in the Premier League later this month.

Speaking upon completing a season-long loan move to Portman Road, Phillips said: “This is a day I’ve been waiting a number of weeks for now and I’m very happy to be here.

“I’ve had some great conversations with players I know here and also with the Manager, who I have obviously heard a lot about, and I’m excited to be here and be part of his team, playing how he likes to play the game.

“The conversations with Kieran McKenna and Mark Ashton have been really good and I followed Ipswich’s season closely last year, so I know the journey the Club has been on and it’s a great story which I’m now excited to be a part of.

“I want to play as many games as possible, enjoy playing football again and help the team win as many games as possible in the Premier League.”

How have Ipswich Town reacted to the deal?

An Ipswich Town statement, said: “The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Manchester City.

“Kalvin, who will wear the number eight shirt during his time at Town, progressed through the ranks at Leeds United where he clocked up 234 appearances and won the Championship title in 2020.”
