Newcastle United and Eddie Howe announce fresh Bruno Guimaraes transfer stance amid Manchester City interest
Newcastle United have maintained their stance regarding the potential sale of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
The 26-year-old had a £100 million release clause earlier this summer, and continues to be targeted by a trio of Champions League clubs, with interest from Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Pep Guardiola is interested in boosting his midfield options during the final weeks of the summer transfer window, with Manchester City armed with a potential war chest of funds, following the club-record sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
Guimaraes has been at St James’ Park since a £40 million move from Lyon in January 2022, and was involved in 15 Premier League goals for Newcastle last season, as the Magpies failed to secure European football for the upcoming campaign.
The Brazilian featured in 37 Premier League matches for Newcastle last season and played in all six UEFA Champions League matches for Eddie Howe’s side, registering 17 direct goal involvements in 50 appearances across all competitions.
The midfielder has previously announced his plans to remain at St James’ Park for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, with Manchester City due to face Newcastle in the Premier League during the opening weeks of the new season.
Football Insider report that Newcastle’s transfer stance also remains unchanged, with the Magpies having no intentions to entertain even huge offers from clubs during the closing weeks of the window.
Newcastle manager Howe is claimed to be unwilling to even contemplate the potential sale of the Brazilian international, with Newcastle planning to have Guimaraes available for the new season.
Manchester City begin their Premier League title defence against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, meanwhile Newcastle host Southampton on Saturday.
