Following emerging reports from Spain claiming of an agreement between Manchester City and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, the truth on the matter can now be outlined.

Suggestions first emerging from Spanish media have claimed of an agreement between the Premier League champions and the Liverpool forward on a potential contract, with a transfer fee identified by Etihad Stadium officials.

Comments from El Chiringuito’s Marcos Benito stated, “The most important movement of the summer, it is about Luis Díaz, the wide Colombian from Liverpool.

“They just told me that he has an agreement with Manchester City, an agreement of Luis Díaz with Manchester City, a five-season contract, City is willing to pay €70 million.

“They tell me that the agreement between the player and the club is total, we will see what happens with Liverpool if he finally ends up accepting, but right now this is what is comes to me. Luis Díaz has an offer from Manchester City for five seasons in exchange for €70 million.”

But less than 20 minutes after the first emergence of information from Spanish media, sources have now indicated to City Xtra of the truth regarding the situation, as Manchester City scour the market for potential replacement options for Julian Alvarez.

Despite claims circulating widely across social media on Tuesday, City Xtra understand that there is no truth in the suggestion that Manchester City have reached an agreement with Luis Diaz over an Etihad Stadium contract.

Information concerning Manchester City and a new recruit into their forward line comes after the club finalised an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a deal for Julian Alvarez, with the Argentina international bringing an end to his two-year stay at the club.

For City, they will likely view the deal as a strong reflection of their ability to sound out rising talents within the global game, develop them over a relatively short period of time, and secure the club vast amounts of profit in the process.

On the subject of Julian Alvarez, Manchester City signed the Argentine in a deal from River Plate in January 2022 for a fee of just £14 million, selling him for a fee that could reach up to €95 million from Atletico Madrid through add-ons on top of an initial €75 million price tag.

Other names linked with interest from Manchester City over the last few weeks heading into the final moments of the summer transfer window include Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.

Both names would certainly command significant transfer fees should the Premier League champions look to turn their admiration into concrete proposals, but the club may deem it necessary given the sales of Sergio Gomez and Julian Alvarez this summer.
