Manchester City have two attacking players that can offer the club a unique threat in attacking positions this season and beyond, manager Pep Guardiola has revealed.

Etihad Stadium transfer bosses have kept their transfer business relatively minimal over the summer months, trusting in the remaining excellence within Pep Guardiola’s squad to bring more silverware success to the organisation this season.

There have been widespread transfer links to new recruits in a variety of positions, including the central midfield roles, as well as full-back. But despite the millions of pounds generated by outgoing deals, new arrivals have been limited to just one name.

Savinho arrived at the Etihad Stadium from fellow City Football Group side Troyes, fresh off the back of an exceptional loan deal at Troyes, in an agreement worth a total package of £33.6 million including add-ons.

Speaking after the Community Shield triumph over Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that the club now have two wingers capable of threatening opposition defences from both sides of the traditional front-three.

On the subject of Savinho in particular, the Catalan tactician admitted on his immediate impact at the Etihad Stadium, “Really good! So fast, can go on both sides, playing right or left.”

Offering further insight on the tactical front, he continued, “For example, Jack (Grealish) can just play left, Oscar (Bobb) just can play right, Bernardo (Silva) can play right, Phil (Foden) can play left but more right. Jeremy (Doku) and Savinho can play on both sides. Sometimes when you need players who can go to the byline, we can do natural sides.”

Speaking further on Manchester City’s latest South American wonderkid, Pep Guardiola said, “I think his impact has been good and he has to try to understand English a little bit to communicate with his mates but the impact was good.

“Last season in Girona he was one of the best players in the league, important and Míchel – the manager in Girona – helped him a lot to grow up and become the player that we believe. He’s a young player, a good transfer deal for the club, and yeah, really pleased.”

Savinho is likely to face competition from fellow exciting youngster Oscar Bobb for a consistent spot on the right side of Manchester City’s front-three, with the Norwegian international undergoing a sensational run of form during the pre-season period.

Forming a strong partnership with mainstay striker Erling Haaland in the United States, Bobb’s fine form continued into Saturday’s Community Shield match against Manchester United, providing the crucial assist for Bernardo Silva’s equalising goal late in the contest.
