Ruben Dias reveals major Manchester City FA Community Shield gaffe in social media post
Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has revealed a major calendar gaffe ahead of this weekend’s FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side begin their 2024/25 campaign against local rivals Manchester United this weekend, featuring in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester City, who suffered defeat to Manchester United on their last outing to Wembley Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup final in May, have featured regularly in the annual curtain-raising fixture in recent years.
The Sky Blues haven’t won the trophy since 2019, and suffered a penalty shoot-out loss to Arsenal in the fixture last season, after Cole Palmer’s goal was cancelled out by Leandro Trossard’s last-gasp strike.
The FA Community Shield is the first of six trophies Manchester City could win during the season, with Guardiola’s side also set to compete in expanded editions of the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, alongside bidding to defend their Premier League crown.
City lifted the Premier League trophy for the fourth successive season in May, and will bid to lift the trophy for an unprecedented fifth consecutive campaign, with the potential for the Blues to play a record number of matches across the 2024/25 season.
The gruelling upcoming schedule was highlighted by defender Ruben Dias on social media platform X, with the 12-month calendar also including the wrong date for this weekend’s upcoming FA Community Shield.
The calendar said that the derby clash in north London would be taking place on Sunday afternoon, with the match actually scheduled to kick-off at 15:00 on Saturday 10 August.
The fixture could provide Dias with his first minutes of the new campaign, after the 27-year-old was afforded an extended holiday and missed Manchester City’s recent four-match pre-season tour of the United States.
The Portugal defender returned to Manchester City training at the City Football Academy this week, although some players who featured at the European Championship are still to return, and as a result are set to miss Saturday’s match.
