Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid – Here We Go confirmed by Fabrizio Romano
Manchester City and Julian Alvarez have now finalised a total agreement with Atletico Madrid over a deal for the Argentine striker this summer, it has been revealed.
The two clubs had been locked in negotiations over the structure of a deal over the course of a72-hour period, ultimately reaching a total agreement on a fee, payment structure, and the addition of bonuses by Tuesday morning.
A briefing was issued to sections of the media closest to the Premier League champions confirming that Manchester City had accepted a final proposal of an initial €75 million transfer fee plus a further €20 million in add-ons.
The total €95 million deal represents a staggering profit for Etihad Stadium officials, who recruited Alvarez from River Plate just two years ago in a deal understood to have been signed off at a valuation of £14 million.
But with eyes on more responsibility as a leading striker at one of Europe’s leading clubs, as well as warmer climates and a more suitable environment for his close family, a decision was made on the player’s side to take up the opportunity of a switch to the Spanish capital.
Now, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano across social media channels on Tuesday evening, Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid can now be considered as a ‘Here We Go’ deal in the words of the Italian transfer market insider.
It is further announced that a deal is in place between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez over a €75 million initial fixed fee, plus a further €20 million in add-ons taking the total package of the deal to €95 million.
Crucially however, Julian Alvarez has now also accepted a proposal of a five-year deal with Atletico Madrid after talks with his agent Fernando Hidalgo earlier on Tuesday, despite some concerns of differences between the parties involved in discussions.
At present, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City will now return to the transfer market in order to recruit a replacement for Pep Guardiola’s squad in light of Julian Alvarez’s exit ahead of the new season.
Some believe it is unlikely that City will seek a direct replacement and eye a new versatile central striker, however there remains a possibility of recruiting in terms of personnel, specifically in midfield.
Manchester City officials and coaching staff are believed to be aware of the lack of a direct back-up for Rodrigo in defensive midfield, but plans may have changed following the successful performances of Mateo Kovacic and Nico O’Reilly in the role during pre-season.
City have also been linked to the likes of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto in recent days and weeks, however both player would likely command significant transfer fees and a strong reluctance from their respective clubs to sell.
