Manchester City have now received a final offer from Atletico Madrid over the services of star striker Julian Alvarez, according to new reports.

The former River Plate striker is seemingly heading towards the exit door at the Etihad Stadium, and may not make a return to the club upon the conclusion of his compulsory summer holidays in two weeks’ time.

Pep Guardiola recently stated during a press conference that he was expecting to ‘hug’ his centre-forward when he returns to duties at the City Football Academy, before speaking with the player about his experiences at Copa America and the Olympics in Paris.

However, such are the speed of negotiations and conversations between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid that a deal could be completed as soon as Thursday of this week, with a presentation and formal announcements to follow by the weekend.

Several informal and formal proposals have been passed between the two clubs involved in discussions, as well as via intermediaries representing Julian Alvarez, but the latest submission is expected to trigger a green light from Manchester City officials.

According to the information of journalist César Luis Merlo, Julián Álvarez’s big-money transfer to Atlético Madrid is now ‘in the final stages’, with the La Liga giants having now submitted their final offer to Manchester City.

The report details that in light of their last and latest proposal to the Premier League champions, Atletico Madrid are ‘optimistic’ about closing a transfer for an initial fee of €75 million plus a further €15 million in ‘objectives’.

Should a deal be completed between the two clubs, with César Luis Merlo pointing out that it is expected, the 24-year-old Argentina international striker will pen a five-year contract at the Metropolitano in the Spanish capital.

Aside from interest from Atletico Madrid, Julian Alvarez’s options this summer have been somewhat limited in terms of clubs that are able to offer him and his family environmental comfort, as well as consistent game time in the leading striker role.

Alvarez’s exit from Manchester City will bring an end to a hugely successful time working with Pep Guardiola, having won almost everything available to the player including back-to-back Premier League titles and a maiden UEFA Champions League crown.

The move for the Argentine will also further solidify the place of Erling Haaland as the club’s leading striker, with negotiations over a contract renewal for the Norwegian forward expected to take place in the coming weeks.
