Manchester City’s Mahamadou Susoho agrees to season-long loan exit
Highly-rated Manchester City defensive midfielder Mahamadou Susoho appears set for a season away from the Etihad Stadium in his first taste of regular senior football.
The 19-year-old has widely been tipped for progression into Pep Guardiola’s regular plans at the Etihad Stadium, however the emergence of other options in defensive midfield has somewhat blocked his immediate pathway.
Nico O’Reilly’s star performances during Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States has meant that Guardiola has been willing to promote the player into his first-team squad for the forthcoming season.
As such, club bosses have been thrust into action to ensure that defensive midfield prospects including Susoho and Jacob Wright maintain their trajectory of development by heading out on loan for the upcoming campaign.
For the former, that now means a step into League One – a division that has brought about plenty of success for Manchester City’s recent young players including Jadel Katongo, Callum Doyle and Finley Burns.
According to the information of MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, defensive midfield talent Mahamadou Susoho has now agreed to join League One side Peterborough United on loan from Manchester City for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign.
Susoho was one of 11 players to have signed their first professional contracts with Manchester City ahead of the 2022/23 season, joining the likes of Rico Lewis, Nico O’Reilly, and Jadel Katongo in securing careers in the senior men’s game.
Around a year later, having been included in the Manchester City first-team squad for a competitive game for the first time, Susoho recorded his debut for the club in a 2-3 away win against Crvena zvezda in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Having gone on to be included in the club’s FIFA Club World Cup travelling squad in Saudi Arabia, as well as for a meeting against Copenhagen in the Champions League knock-out rounds, Susoho’s seemingly final experience in Guardiola’s squad for now came this summer.
A positive showing for the club during their pre-season tour of the United States will no doubt give the club the hope that Susoho can be an option for the future, should his spell with Peterborough United go to plan.
