Manchester City centre-back schedules medical ahead of Etihad Stadium exit
A medical has been scheduled for highly-rated Manchester City centre-back Finley Burns this week ahead of a season-long loan move into the Championship.
The latest move into the Football League for the London-born defensive talent will see Burns follow up a hugely successful spell with Stevenage last season by taking on a full campaign with promotion-chasing and ambitious Hull City.
The Tigers are undergoing somewhat of a transitional summer period ahead of the start of the new Championship season, having relieved former manager Liam Rosenior of his duties despite only narrowly missing out on a play-off place last season.
Having been sacked by Hamburg in February 2024, Hull moved to replace the highly-rated Rosenior with German coach Tim Walter, who has now turned to Manchester City in order to strengthen his defensive ranks.
According to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Championship side Hull City are now set to win the race to sign Manchester City’s highly-rated centre-back talent Finley Burns.
It is reported that the 21-year-old will join the East Yorkshire club on a straight loan agreement, with the Tigers holding no option or obligation to purchase the Manchester City Academy graduate in 2025.
With two-years remaining on his existing Manchester City contract, a step into the Championship will represent a significant opportunity for Burns to take his senior game to the next level, and the player is now reportedly set to undergo a medical with Hull on Tuesday.
Burns is likely to viewed as the direct replacement for former Hull City centre-back Jacob Greaves, who left the KCOM Stadium earlier this summer by joining recently-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town.
Burns is also fresh off the back of a period of training with Manchester City’s having linked up with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad at the City Football Academy, before being excluded from the 27-man squad list that travelled to the United States for pre-season.
The understanding is that Manchester City wanted to permit Burns sufficient time to weigh up his future options alongside club officials, in a similar stance taken with the likes of Alex Robertson and Issa Kabore.
