Manchester City legend Yaya Toure has offered advice to Manchester United forward Amad, the Ivorian international has revealed.

Toure, who made 316 appearances between 2010 and 2018 for Manchester City, had an impressive record against local rivals Manchester United, making 15 appearances and scoring four goals against the Red Devils, including a famous strike in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

The 41-year-old departed the Etihad Stadium at the end of 2017/18 campaign, and is currently an assistant coach for the Saudi Arabian national team, having become involved in management and punditry since retiring from the professional game.

Toure scored 82 goals and won eight trophies during a sensational spell at Manchester City, winning three Premier League titles as well as the League Cup and FA Cup.

The former Manchester City and Barcelona striker has reportedly been in discussions with Manchester United’s Amad ahead of the upcoming new campaign, with the two Manchester rivals set to kick-off the season with a clash in north London on Saturday 10 August.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face Manchester United in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, with the Blues looking to avenge for the surprise FA Cup Final loss to Erik ten Hag’s side in May.

United’s 22-year-old forward has revealed that he received advice from Toure during a summer trip to the Maldives, with Amad representing the Ivory Coast internationally, a nation Toure received 97 caps for.

“It’s a secret. He said something is good for me. He is a good guy. Meeting him on holiday and talking with him was very important for me. He gave me some advice for the future. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season,” Amad told the Daily Mail.

The Ivorian made just 12 appearances for Manchester United last season, and has previously spent time at Sunderland and Rangers on loan.
