Savinho reveals what he has already been told about Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium atmosphere
Manchester City supporters have received a personal message from new summer signing Savinho ahead of his official unveiling this weekend.
The Brazil international has now travelled to England and moved into his brand new city centre apartment in the heart of Manchester, ahead of beginning work with his City teammates from Monday.
Pep Guardiola and his pre-season tour squad remain away on duties in the United States, with just one warm up contest remaining this summer against their Premier League opening weekend opponents in Chelsea.
The FA Community Shield against Manchester United will mark City’s first competitive contest of the season, just one week after their return to the City Football Academy, while the Etihad Stadium will not host a contest until mid-August when Ipswich Town make a visit.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official club website this week ahead of an official unveiling event in front of supporters on Sunday afternoon, Savinho looked ahead to his new challenge in the Premier League with Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering squad.
“It’s now the start of my new adventure in Manchester and I can’t wait for it to begin,” the 20-year-old said. “It’s not long now before I will be training with the team as we look ahead to the new season!”
He continued, “I’ve followed Manchester City for many years and I can’t wait to be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad. As well as the massive success on the pitch over the past few years, I’ve also seen the support the team gets from fans off the field too.”
The Brazil international has further revealed what he has already been told about the atmosphere generated by Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium support, as well as the strength of the club’s travelling fans across England and into Europe.
“I’ve been told all about the atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium, how it brings the very best out of the team,” Savinho said. “And of course, the fans who travel away, too. You need great players to win things but the supporters always play such a big role in that success.
“It’s that connection that counts. My first chance to meet our supporters will be this Sunday. I’ll be there with Vivianne (Miedema), one of the new signings for the women’s team. I’m excited about it and I’m sure she is too.”
The Brazilian continued, “Wherever I’ve been, I’ve enjoyed a great relationship with the fans and I am looking for that again here at City. Together, we can achieve more great things.”
Savinho remains Manchester City’s only men’s first-team signing this summer, joining the club from Troyes in a deal that could rise up to £33.6 million through add-ons, following a staggering individual campaign with Girona in La Liga.
The 20-year-old is likely to compete positionally with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Oscar Bobb on the right of a front-three, although Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff will no doubt make an assessment on where the talent is best suited.
